MEET THE CROSSFIRE DANCERS

Born and raised in Mexico City, Carlos moved to South Florida in 1998, but it was just

two falls ago when he first stepped into a country-western bar and discovered, he has a passion for dancing. He is still amazed about the night when he was asked to consider becoming part of the dance team just after his inexperienced rendition of, check this out, “The Electric Slide.” There is an American Dream! He loves movies, traveling, the beach, Sex…and the City, the original Charlie’s Angels, and of course, his partner of almost 17 years. Not a typo here, seventeen and counting; perhaps it is not all that bad to drink the water in Mexico.

The newest member to Crossfire was born and raised in New York.  Mark has been dancing professionally since he was a teenager.  Although classically trained in Ballet, Jazz and Modern, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Stage Management and worked on and off Broadway.  Moving to Fort Lauderdale in 1984, Mark went back to dancing as a Ballroom Dance Instructor.  He retired from the Dance Biz in 2003, and is now a Registered Nurse specializing in Oncology and Hospice. He and his partner of 5 years, David, a competitive swimmer, reside in their historic home in downtown Fort Lauderdale with their 4 dogs and 2 cats.  Mark is also a member of the Southern Country SunDancers, and can occasionally be found teaching a country western dance class at Manhattan South!

Lee is originally from Georgia and moved to Florida in 1986. He is the Director of Dance for the International Association of Gay/Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs (IAGLCWDC). He has been teaching Ballroom, Latin, and Disco since 1978, and Country/Western since 1991. A former ballroom competitor, he has judged several competitions in the United States. He and his ballroom partner, Scott, competed in ballroom at the Gay Games in Amsterdam in 1998 and the Gay Games in Australia in 2002 making the finals both times. He is a member of Southern Country South Florida and has served as the choreographer/instructor for the Dream team for six years and the SunDancers for three years. He and his country partner, Chris, were the first Championship winners in the IAGLCWDC Couples Competition in 1998 and have performed at many hoedowns and fundraisers. He is also one of the original members of Crossfire.

Bruce comes to Florida via Milwaukee where he performed with Shoreline-Milwaukee since 1996. He was their President for the last 6 years of his chilly stay in Milwaukee. Before making the move to South Florida he was elected as Vice-Chair of the IAGLCWDC and he is still active in that role. Recently Bruce was voted in as a Board of Director of GLISA North America and remains a permanent delegate of GLISA International serving on the bylaw committee. Since he and his husband (yes the Orthodox Dutch Catholic Church will marry us!) made the move to South Florida where not only they have experienced their first hurricane (which quite frankly he thinks they could live without) but also has joined Southern Country South Florida and performed with The SunDancers at various events. Bruce looks forward to performing & competing with the guys of Crossfire...his newest family members!

After spending a winter vacation in Fort Lauderdale three years ago, Peter returned to his native home Green Bay, Wisconsin, rented a moving truck, and returned. Peter says that it’s the best move he has made. Hobbies include golfing, scuba diving, the beach, and of course dancing with Crossfire.
